Origins of the BLA

The origins of the British Learning Association are founded through the amalgamation of the two leading learning Associations; The British Association for Open Learning (BAOL) and The Forum for Technology in Training.

Both organisations saw the need to attract a wider audience and recognised that a larger membership would provide greater opportunities such as; an enhanced profile in the industry, an opportunity to promote to government and appropriate national agencies as a source of expertise and an increased portfolio of membership services.

With both organisations looking to achieve similar aims and objectives an opportunity arose for both memberships to come together under a new 'umbrella' association.

In the short term, the new association is clearly promoted as incorporating the British Association for Open Learning and the Forum for Technology in Training to retain the identities that many in the industry are familiar with.

The aim of the British Learning Association is be to become a Centre of Excellence for the advancement of learning promoting quality and best practice. It seeks to include all those organisations and individuals wishing to identify with and commit to its mission and values to promote the development and advancement of learning.
