ReLL Project (Regional Network to develop Lifelong Learning Strategies)
Over the past decade the European Commission and other key policy bodies, such as the OECD and many national governments, have come to believe that the global economy is increasingly a knowledge-based one. Since competitive success depends on the ability to produce knowledge and utilise it effectively, there is a pressing need to invest more in education and training.
This project focuses on the role of local authorities and development agencies and how they are developing opportunities for Lifelong Learning (LLL). It aims to assess the impact of LLL policies at a regional level and addresses the problems associated with social exclusion.
Finally, the project will establish a European-wide Learning Regions Forum, with representation from all relevant bodies, organisations and regional authorities involved in the project. This will provide a sustainable forum for dialogue, consensus building and policy support in the field.
MRS is acting as the project representative for Yorkshire and the Humber and is involved in the following areas:
Research
- Mapping the interest of all the education, training authorities and providers within the region
- Collating and evaluating LLL measures within the region and assessing the value of using ICT according to different demographic characteristics of learners
- Analysing the requests and needs of the region in the field of education and LLL
Event Management
- MRS will be organising the final conference for the project in Spring 2004
Website Development
- In collaboration with the other partners on the project, MRS will be developing a website that will support a Learning Regions Forum and Working Group
